A while back someone had made a midi from some old sheet music (which is another post) to midi and then output it mp3. (waltz) Is there any way of getting simple mp3 audio midi back to midi or mod format ?

There has been many discussion on MP3 to MIDI conversion on this forum. In one simple sentence, you cannot convert MP3 to MIDI. |

Untrue.
I found software last night that did a pretty decent job of accessing a mp3 file and converting it to midi. It was not free though and I did not want to pay for it.
It was slightly imperfect but a good shot none the less. _________________ KieranMullen

The most efficient and least error prone way to "convert" recorded audio to music notation is to use a pattern recognition neural network trained with large amounts of relevant data. In this task the human brain outperforms any computer program i've heard of.
Apart from that, Celemony Melodyne seems to recognize notes in polyphonic music quite well, but not having tried it I can't recommend outright. And I don't know whether or not it can actually output to a playable midi file.
And about wanting a free program to do it, don't get your hopes high.
Actually, what would be more interesting is a program that assists in making a transcription by analyzing the audio and giving suggestions about the notes based on FFT or STFFT on a selection. I wonder if someone's done that already. |

I wish there was an mp3 to midi converter, it would make things so much easier. I don't think it's technically possible though. |
